Abundant life is about an amazing peace of mind that comes only through a relationship with Jesus Christ. In John chapter ten Jesus introduces those who think they have everything they could ever want to something that surpasses their expectations.
““The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” (John 10:10–11, NASB95)
What Jesus is trying to communicate gets lost in translation at the end of verse ten. The word translated “abundantly” doesn’t refer merely to life, but rather He wishes for the sheep to have life and have more. He then states that He is willing to lay down His life in order to make this happen for me and you!
As you live your life day to day you can live with full assurance that your life has a purpose worth dying for. You are not just a mass of cells that’s born and then dies. You have a beginning and you have an end that will only mean glory. The steps between those two points are meant to be used in service to the shepherd and those we come in contact with. When we come to Christ we become something more than we were.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, NASB95)
